Sphinx postcardThe Dunes Center, an educational visitor center that promotes the preservation and conservation of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Complex through outreach, interpretive exhibits, and field-trips, is raising funds to excavate the last remaining sphinx.  Cecil B. DeMille’s left behind many treasures from the set of his masterpiece, The Ten Commandments, filmed in the area in1923.  The Dunes Center excavated portions of the set’s sphinx and has it on display.  Through a generous grant from Santa Barbara County’s Coastal Resource Enhancement Fund (CREF), donations from loyal supporters, and several fundraising events, the Dunes Center plans to excavate the remaining sphinx.
