With the goal of bringing the community together using public art projects, two area nonprofits collaborated to have Santa Maria artist Ruben Espinoza paint a mural at a Guadalupe landmark.
A joint effort of Santa Barbara-based Squire Foundation and the Dunes Center in Guadalupe, the mural is set to occupy a 13 feet by 20 feet space on the side of the old Far Western Tavern building, constructed in 1912. The building was donated to the Dunes Center for a new museum after the restaurant moved to Old Orcutt in 2012.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, the Dunes Center will host a public event with food trucks and live music to celebrate local art with the unveiling of the new mural.
The 39-year-old artist and CSU Fullerton graduate — who is serving as an artist-in-residence at the Squire Center — said the mural is meant to represent the dynamic community of Guadalupe.
