Guadalupe's old Far Western Tavern building getting new mural

SM TIMESWith the goal of bringing the community together using public art projects, two area nonprofits collaborated to have Santa Maria artist Ruben Espinoza paint a mural at a Guadalupe landmark.

A joint effort of Santa Barbara-based Squire Foundation and the Dunes Center in Guadalupe, the mural is set to occupy a 13 feet by 20 feet space on the side of the old Far Western Tavern building, constructed in 1912. The building was donated to the Dunes Center for a new museum after the restaurant moved to Old Orcutt in 2012.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, the Dunes Center will host a public event with food trucks and live music to celebrate local art with the unveiling of the new mural.

The 39-year-old artist and CSU Fullerton graduate — who is serving as an artist-in-residence at the Squire Center — said the mural is meant to represent the dynamic community of Guadalupe.
