About the Dunes Center:

The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center is a natural history museum at the heart of historic downtown Guadalupe that strives to promote the conservation and restoration of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes ecosystem.

Internship Description:
Hours per week: 10-20 hours per week

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the intern(s) will observe and assist with planning the Dunes Center’s Annual Fundraiser that is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 31, 2021.

General responsibilities may include: Work with staff and volunteers to coordinate event logistics. Event planning, promotion, and on-site execution including design set up, and tear down. Maintain up-to-date event documents including site-schedule forms and action plans. To procure and organize supplies for the event. Position may offer input into projects, may be invited to meetings, and may be asked to assist other projects.

We are looking for individuals who want to gain experience in all aspects of the event planning process and running a nonprofit. Students will have the chance to learn about the industry firsthand and have high accountability as they will be given high-priority, real-world tasks throughout the internship.

In addition, they will assist with the following:

  •  Assist in all aspects of planning the event, working with vendors, event coordination, and execution.
  • Assist in creating event collateral, and outreach through media and social media channels, and email blasts.
  • Aggressively gather information on this project to achieve quality event execution.
  • Conduct research, make site visits, and find resources to help staff make decisions about event possibilities.
  • Propose new ideas to improve the event planning and implementation process.
  • Serve as liaison with vendors on event-related matters.
  • The event coordinator should have a love for special event management, provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Must be able to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines, and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends, that is, the night of the event.
  • Assist with managing on-site production and clean up for events as necessary.
  • Closeout the event as required.

  • Polished and professional when dealing with donors, prospective donors, volunteers, and executive management
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Upon Completion, Interns will:
Have work experience(s) to draw upon when they enter the profession of their choice


  • Letter of recommendation from the Dunes Center upon completion of the internship
  • Work experience in the field of event planning
  • Internship credit may be able to be arranged with your school’s appropriate department prior to beginning the internship
