Volunteers
Our volunteer program at the Dunes Center is crucial to our ability to fulfill our mission. Volunteers implement our education programs, operate our Visitor Center, and provide support to staff. We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, tailored for people of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds.
Volunteers may participate in any of the following activities: |

Greeting visitors, guiding house tours and providing administrative support as a weekend House Host in our Visitor Center. |
Leading nature walks and hikes in the dunes for private groups or the general public as a Dunes Center Docent. |
Discussing natural history with the general public at our Education Station on Sundays at Oso Flaco Lake. |
Leading afterschool and/or summer education programs hosted by the Dunes Center as an Education Intern or assisting interns as a high school intern. |
Working in our native plant garden weeding, pruning, and planting. |
Providing environmental education and public outreach at community events. |
Helping with the planning and execution of Dunes Center special events, including the Coreopsis Cup Golf Tournament, Trees of the Season Gala, DuneQuest, and SummerFest. |
Providing administrative support by answering phones, filing documents, managing mailings, performing light cleaning, and other tasks. |
Developing, maintaining, and/or assembling brochures, newsletters, education materials, and other special projects. |
Volunteering at monthly community service events in the dunes, such as ice-plant removals, native seed collections, and beach clean ups. |
